Me, Aunt Jo & the creation of ABWAI

Before there was Martha Stewart or Rachel Ray, there was Josheba Menafee - aka Aunt Jo. She LOVED a good party, and like her, so do I! Some of my all-time favorite memories are of Aunt Jo’s parties “back in the day” in Detroit. She would let me sneak in so I got a first hand look at what it took to be a great hostess. Ever since, I’ve known that I wanted to be a great hostess just like her.

Now years later, I am constantly entertaining friends. It took me two years to figure out that my friends enjoyed receiving my custom designed invitations as much as they enjoyed the party! Each time I created an invitation, I set out to top the previous one. A friend commissioned me to create her wedding suite which included invitations, programs, reception and menu cards, place settings and thank you notes. The suite attracted so much attention I was commissioned to do others and suddenly, my company was born!

How did my company get its name? Have you noticed the excitement and anticipation you feel when you receive an invitation? Every event is an adventure! Adventures Begin with an Invite.

I LOVE paper and I LOVE to party. I created my Do-It-Yourself line to share my passion with you and to hopefully inspire you to create your own custom invitations to make your events special. You’ll be surprised at how little effort it takes to show your friends how much you care.

The Process

Our custom invitation process:

First comes the consult...

In order to create an invitation unique to you, we need to learn about the event and the mood you would like to set. To help, we'll show you our collection of invitations. If you have pictures of things that inspire you, bring them! We'd love to see them; it helps us design an invitation unique to you.

Then comes the agreement...

After we get an idea of what you want, we'll draw up a price quote and contract finalizing the details. Once the contract is signed and a deposit has been received we'll get to work creating invitation designs for you.

Then comes the design...

Once invitation designs are created, we'll meet with you so that you can review and approve a design. The final invitation will address any modifications you requested.

A nd the delivery!

When the final design is complete, we'll send you a final proof for review. Be sure to look for errors in the text, grammar, spelling and layout. Upon your approval, the final design will be sent to the printer and production will begin.
